ABOUT

Iacopo earned a degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Florence with a thesis on the herpetofauna of Djibouti, in the Horn of Africa. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Nature Sciences and Management at the University of Bologna, focusing on the ecology of Italian vipers. As a freelance professional, he works on regional and LIFE monitoring projects and he is the author of some scientific publications.

A lifelong nature enthusiast, he spent his childhood glued to wildlife documentaries—often at the expense of his retinal health. With a pathological passion for reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates, he has always wondered how to make others' eyes light up at the sight of a snake’s flickering tongue or the frantic scuttle of a beetle.

For the past five years, camera in hand, he has been chasing everything “unaesthetic” to share—through his Instagram profile @unaesthetic_fauna—the overlooked wonders of the tiny world that surrounds us. Some of his photographs have been awarded in international and national photo contests like Environmental Photography Award, Big Picture, IBC Photo Awards and made an appearance on international journals like BBC Wildlife Magazine, The Guardian, Forbes and Journal of Zoology.
